Rules for using the app, uploading family content, and sharing access.
Using the Service
By accessing or using Hmong Family Tree, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
These terms apply to the public website, the authenticated application, collaboration workflows, uploads, and related communications sent through the service.
Accounts and Access
The service currently supports email and password sign-in and may support Google sign-in when enabled.
- You must provide accurate account information and keep your sign-in access under your control.
- You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account.
- If you are invited to a tree, your access may be limited by the owner or owners of that tree.
- We may refuse or restrict access if it is necessary to protect the service, other users, or the integrity of the data.
Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit to Hmong Family Tree, including family records, stories, media, and other materials you upload or enter.
By submitting content, you grant Hmong Family Tree a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, format, back up, and display that content as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service for you and the collaborators you authorize.
We do not sell your personal information, family content, photos, stories, or tree data to anyone.
Data Export and Account Deletion
You have the right and ability to export your data and delete your account at any time.
- You can export your data, including family trees you own, before deleting your account.
- You can schedule account deletion from Settings. Account deletion has a 7-day recovery window before permanent deletion is processed.
- If a tree has another owner, that tree may remain available to that owner after your account is deleted.
Family Information and Permissions
The service is built for sharing family history, which means users may enter information about relatives and other people.
- Only upload or share content that you have the right to use and share.
- Before adding sensitive information, photos, or stories about a living person, consider whether you have that person's permission or another lawful basis to do so.
- When you invite others or grant access, those users may view, copy, or contribute to the content within the permissions you provide.
Acceptable Use
You may not misuse Hmong Family Tree or use it in a way that harms other people, the product, or the operator of the service.
- Do not upload unlawful, infringing, defamatory, abusive, or malicious content.
- Do not impersonate another person or send invitations you are not authorized to send.
- Do not attempt to bypass permissions, access another user's account or data without authorization, or interfere with the operation or security of the service.
- Do not upload malware, exploit the platform, or use the service to spam or harass others.
Billing, Refunds, and Third-Party Services
Hmong Family Tree offers a Free plan and a Premium subscription. Premium billing is handled through Stripe, and Stripe's terms and privacy practices apply to payment processing and billing portal activity.
Premium includes a 30-day refund request window for the first Premium purchase on an account. Refund requests are reviewed and, when approved, processed back to the original payment method through Stripe.
Approved refunds cancel the Premium subscription immediately and Premium access ends immediately. Cancel subscription renewals through the billing portal when you do not need a refund.
When Premium access ends, owned tree archive exports remain available from Settings. Premium-only media, including PDFs, audio, video, and photos beyond the Free plan limit, may be deleted from storage after a 30-day export grace period unless Premium is restored before the deadline.
Availability and Product Changes
The service may change over time. Features may be added, modified, paused, or removed, and the service may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, outages, or other operational reasons.
Suspension or Termination
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access to the service if we believe it is necessary to enforce these terms, address security or abuse concerns, comply with law, or protect other users and the platform.
You may stop using the service at any time.
Disclaimers
Hmong Family Tree is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hmong Family Tree will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the service.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service as the product changes. The effective date on this page reflects the current version. Continued use of the service after an updated version becomes effective means you accept the revised terms.
